1. Introduction

Welcome to Book to Kids (the "Site"), operated by RunEarn LLC ("we", "our", "us", or the "Company"), registered in the United States at 30 N Gould St Ste R, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Because our service involves creating personalised children's books, we handle sensitive information including the names and photographs of children. This policy explains what we collect, why, how long we keep it, and what rights you have.

By using our Site you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please stop using the Site.

2. Children's privacy (COPPA and GDPR)

2.1 Parental consent

This Site is intended for use by adults, parents and legal guardians. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information directly from a child. All information about a child must be submitted by a parent or legal guardian with the authority to provide it.

2.2 What we collect about the child

  • First name — to write the child into the story
  • Photograph — to create the personalised illustrations and cover
  • Gender — to set the pronouns and character design
  • Age — to match the story to the right reading level

We ask for nothing else about the child, and we do not build a profile of them.

2.3 Photo retention and deletion

Automatic deletion. Uploaded photographs are stored on encrypted cloud infrastructure. Within thirty (30) calendar days of your book being produced and fulfilled, the original image files and the rendering assets derived from them are permanently deleted from our systems, databases and backups.

No AI training. We use automated and AI-assisted illustration tools to turn your child's photograph into the artwork in their book. We never use your child's photograph, name or any related data to train, fine-tune or improve any artificial intelligence model, and we never sell, license or share it with anyone for that purpose. Your child's photo is used to make their book and nothing else, and it is deleted within 30 days of fulfilment.

Early deletion. You can ask us to delete an uploaded photograph before the 30-day cycle at any time by emailing us.

3. What we collect from adult customers

3.1 Information you give us

  • Identity and contact — name, email address, phone number, billing and shipping address
  • Account details — username and password, if you create an account
  • Correspondence — anything you send us when contacting support

3.2 Payment information

Payments are processed by Shopify Payments and the other providers offered at checkout, which may include PayPal and wallets such as Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay.

We never see or store your card number or CVV. Payment details are transmitted over TLS encryption directly to the payment processor, which is PCI-DSS compliant.

4. Cookies, pixels and tracking

4.1 What we use

We use cookies, web beacons and tracking pixels operated by:

  • Meta Pixel (Facebook and Instagram) — advertising measurement and optimisation
  • Google Analytics and Google Ads — traffic analysis and advertising
  • TikTok Pixel — advertising attribution

4.2 Consent and how to opt out

Where required by law, we ask for your consent before setting non-essential cookies or activating advertising pixels. You can change your choice at any time using the cookie settings link in our footer.

You can also configure your browser to reject cookies, or opt out of interest-based advertising through the Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA) or the Network Advertising Initiative (NAI).

5. Our lawful bases for processing

If you are in the UK or EU, we rely on the following lawful bases under the GDPR:

  • Performance of a contract — to take your order, produce your book and deliver it
  • Consent — for advertising cookies, marketing email, and the parental consent that allows us to process a child's photograph and details
  • Legal obligation — to keep tax and transaction records
  • Legitimate interests — to secure the Site, prevent fraud and improve our service, where those interests are not overridden by your rights

Where we rely on consent, you may withdraw it at any time without affecting processing carried out beforehand.

6. Who we share information with

We do not sell, rent or trade your data or your child's data. We share it only with partners who need it to fulfil your order:

  • Shopify — hosts our store and processes orders
  • Our printing partners — receive the child's name, age, gender, photograph and your delivery address, so the book can be printed at the press nearest you. They are contractually prohibited from using this data for anything other than producing your book.
  • Delivery carriers — receive your name and address to deliver the parcel
  • Legal authorities — where required by law, court order or valid governmental request

7. International transfers

We are based in the United States and our printing and technology partners operate in a number of countries. This means personal data may be transferred outside your country of residence, including outside the UK and the European Economic Area.

Where we transfer data from the UK or EEA, we rely on appropriate safeguards, including the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK International Data Transfer Addendum, together with additional technical measures such as encryption in transit and at rest. You may request a copy of the relevant safeguards by emailing us.

8. How long we keep information

  • Uploaded photographs and rendering assets — deleted within 30 days of fulfilment
  • Order and transaction records — retained for 7 years to meet tax and accounting obligations
  • Account details — kept until you ask us to close your account
  • Support correspondence — retained for up to 24 months
  • Marketing preferences — kept until you unsubscribe, plus a record of the unsubscribe itself

9. Security

We use physical, administrative and technical safeguards to protect personal data, including encryption in transit, firewalled servers and access restricted to personnel involved in producing your book.

No method of transmission or storage over the internet is completely secure, so while we use industry-standard protection we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Your rights

Depending on where you live — including the EEA, the United Kingdom, and states such as California — you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you, and receive a portable copy
  • Correct data that is inaccurate or incomplete
  • Erase your data, including asking us to delete an uploaded photograph immediately
  • Restrict or object to our processing, including for direct marketing
  • Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent
  • Not be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights

To exercise any of these, email contact@booktokids.com. We respond within 30 days.

Complaints. If you are in the UK or EEA and you believe we have handled your data improperly, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection supervisory authority. We would appreciate the chance to address it first.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy to reflect changes in how we operate or in the law. Changes take effect when published on this page, and the "Last updated" date above will change. Please check back from time to time.
